It is a nice hot day for a cool treat, and if you picked a Dairy Queen Blizzard for that treat it also helped a good cause.

For all Blizzards bought today, a portion of the money goes to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis.

Dairy Queens across the country are celebrating “Miracle Treat Day.”

Workers at this one in Niles say they have sold at least twice the average number of Blizzards today.

And asking the customers, it is easy to see why.

"I had a cousin that was just up there at Riley Hospital last year, and they treated her really good. Good place,” said Tammy Miller, who purchased a Reese’s cup Blizzard.

Four Dairy Queens in the South Bend area rank in the top-ten statewide in funding for Riley Hospital.

I am going to buy a few Blizzard's today, my son spent 6 days down at Riley's. My husband and I cannot say enough about the wonderful care that he got there. That is THE ONLY hospital to take a sick child too, even though the area hospitals have Ped's units, NOTHING compares to Riley's. So Please go out and spend at least 2 dollars and support a GREAT place the helps sick kids. God bless all of you that have supported Riley's today, us parents that have been there with our kids appreciate you!

With around 1000 calories in a blizzard there will be plenty more cases of obesity and its side effects for the medical community to profit from.

Riley's was not intended to be a non-profit organization. It was meant to give children the best care that can be given in this area. The best doctors do not come cheap. I want the best care for my Type 1 diabetic child. Most children with Type 1 diabetes go to Riley's, because there in only one diabetic specialist in Northern Indiana. Riley's saved the life of my cousin's daughter who was very sick with mulitple illnesses. They saved the life of my best friend's daughter who had cancer. Thank God for Riley's and thank God for the people that give money to Riley's !!!

They are not an official 501 (c) 3 charitable organization nor do they publish how/where the "donated" monies go. My biggest shock was when I assumed that the money i used to give to Riley's would help pay for medical bills for kids that couldn't afford the care. I would fathom a guess that most others "donate" for the same reason but alas the monies don't go to assist those children that can't pay. I have since moved my charitable contributions to causes that are 501 (c) 3 organizations with a great track record of actually putting the money towards kids care Do not get me wrong, I have toured Riley's on every floor except for the burn ward and have spent time with dying children on their cancer ward and they do great work but when it's packaged to the general public as a charity, I don't appreciate the misleading information and presentation.

Just FYI to everyone. Riley's is NOT a charitable organization. You GIVE money to Rileys - A FOR PROFIT HOSPITAL. If a child can't afford the services at Rileys, they will be turned over to a collection agency and forced into bankruptcy. The money give to Rileys actually goes to hire better doctors and build a better facility. NOT ONE PENNY will pay for a childs care if they cannot afford to pay. That is a fact. Any money given to the hospital is NOT tax deductable because Riley's is a FOR profit hospital owned by Clarion Hospital Systems. Betcha didn't know that.
