General Motors is scaling back production on the Hummer H2.

Company officials confirmed Monday that output will be cut from 52 units a day down to 35.

The Hummer H2 is made at AM General in Mishawaka.

Because of the production cuts, fewer employees will be needed on the H2 line.

We are told workers will be moved to another AM General assembly line to fill military orders.

Officials stress that no local jobs will be lost.

B - Why would anyone come to your company over AM General if your skilled and non-skilled workers make substantially more than we do at AM General? I work at AM General H1, and I know that we are well received by everyone that comes through our plant. So, if there is no issue of no supplying coming into play here, AND they are happy with everything they get, I would find it really hard to believe that anyone would take their business anywhere else for more money if they are happy with what they already receive. As for the H2, well, that's a different story, we all know that. Also, for you to assume that all AM General employees just sleep at work is ridiculous. EVERY employer has issues with people sleeping on the job. However, these things are handled sternly, and there are PLENTY of people who go to work EVERY DAY and work their butts off for the money they receive. You think that if GM stops the H2, that AM General won't make use of the facility they have? How ignorant.

I work for one of their competitors...and you can find the info regarding the pending sale in the Wall Street Journal, CNN Money, Forbes, or in GM's own press release from last week. And the skilled trades workers at my company make around $32/hr, while the non-skilled make around $28.50 but those rates constantly increase due to cost-of-living-adjustments. We sign the same basic agreement as the other members of the big 3. Sorry that i made all of you AM General worker's mad with this sad reality. Oh, and i posted this on my lunch break. I work ten hour days (no OT pay either) trying to save an iconic American Company...how about you Lindy??? And anon..you are right...they are def trying to compensate for something down below!!

To "B": Get your facts straight. How much do you make to sit on your brain and have time to post hateful comments? Your employer sure isn't getting his/her monies worth.

No civilian needs to be driving any type of Hummer. There is no reason to have one. I laugh now when I see them going 10 miles under the speed limit on the toll road because of the gas prices. You are overcompensating for something if you drive a Hummer.

I guess you AM General boys will have to sleep somewhere else now. I guess they'll be closing up their coffee pots too.

Workers at the Hummer plant do not make $30 an hour. But how much do you think that a Union, or non Union Electrician, Maintenance Tech, Machinist, or what not should be paid? These are skilled labor postions that make the equipment run that is needed to make these vehicles that sell for $60k. At the current 52 a day that is what? Over 3 mil a day. What do you think the average skilled worker in the US should be paid at a company like that? Even if it were $30 an hour, that is $240 a day for a 3 mil intake by the company. Boo-whoo. The stock holders, GMs, etc are the ones who reap the rewards, yet the same people who ruin the companies while making millions for themselves and putting the common worker out of business. Don't forget, the average workers spending is what runs our economy, not the rich. And if there is no money, there is no economy! Anytime we lose jobs or are forced to take lower wages it is ridiculous. The average business expense is 5% for workers wages. A joke

If Hummer wants to stay useful to the public, then they need to develop much more fuel efficient engines. What about a Hyrbrid Hummer that gets more than a lousy 2% fuel increase like the Suburban does? Going from 15mpg to 17 isn't a improvement folks. It's a joke. Improving would be from 15mpg to 25 or better. In this day and age,no vehicles should be getting lower than 25mpg. Improve fuel efficiency drastically and they'll come....ohh yea, they'll come.....

We don't make $30 an hour, Not even close. We do make a good wage so don't hate us because you wish you worked for AM General. Be happy for people not angry.

NEWS FLASH.....Don't know where B gets his information, but I would like to meet this UAW employee who makes $30/hour. My husband has almost 30 years in and does not come close to $30/hour. Secondly let me mention to everyone who seems to hate AMG employees for working and maintaining jobs there, AMG hires through WORKONE. You just have to have a decent work record and be able to pass a few tests. If you can pass a drug test why don't you apply instead of running your mouths with untruths.

Why the concern by "B's" posting about Russian built HUMMER H2s? GM has been building them in Russia since 2004? Kaliningrad June 25, 2004; General Motors and Avtotor today celebrated the official start of assembly of the HUMMER H2 at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad, Russia.

Slow News Day?

Don't be surprised when the entire plant gets laid off in the near future. If WNDU would do their research they might mention that Hummer is for sale and is most likely to be purchased by a Russian or Chinese firm by the end of the year and they are not going to keep building them here in the US with UAW labor rates that hover around $30/hour.

Too bad they will not convert the H2's to electric.
