Despite Saturday's rainy weather, people still turned out for South Bend's Garden Walk.

Nineteen local gardens were featured in the walk, which is hosted by the Near Northwest neighborhood.

The neighborhood association aims to not only show people some unique gardens, but to celebrate one of South Bend's oldest neighborhoods.

One local woman says gardening is another way of showing off one's artistic skills.

"It's a continuation of an artistic life, but there are people who aren't artists that are doing the same thing. It's a joy to get out and make something beautiful," says Judy Swafford.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Near Northwest neighborhood group, which aims to preserve and revitalize the area.
