Water quality and economic vitality are two issues Michigan is looking to focus on for its Great Lakes.
On Thursday, Lieutenant Governor John Cherry brought that message to Warren Dunes State Park where he signed a $309,000 state grant to help clean up the Galien River.
Cherry said it is important to keep Lake Michigan's tributaries, like the Galien, clean.
“What we’re trying to do throughout Michigan is raise public awareness of Great Lakes issues, but also highlight specific efforts that symbolize the kinds of activity that we need to undertake to restore the health of the Great Lakes,” said Cherry.
Cherry's visit to the Warren Dunes is part of his summer 2008 Great Lakes tour.
