A bike rider is hospitalized after getting hit by a van in Mishawaka.

The crash happened just before noon on Vistula, east of Bittersweet.

Police say a Comcast truck swerved to avoid some geese and hit a bicyclist, who was crossing the street.

The bike rider was taken to the hospital with head injuries.

Both his name and the name of the Comcast driver haven't been released.

The accident is still under investigation.

First off i live in the apts. and the geese cause a ton of problems for everyone. and people speed way to much on that road. i almost had some guy hit me when i had to stop for them. people just pay attention. we all know they roam that road with the lake and the field right there. We Can not do anything about them. Just be careful and alert

You should get the right information before u put it all over the media

Everyone knows you smear goose-grease on your chest when you have the croop. Duh.

Maybe the kid should take off his headphones and pay attention to traffic, and maybe the Mishawaka police department should get the story straight before releasing it to corrupt media.

I guess some people will do anything to keep their high speed internet.Perhaps it is another animal conspiracy. Just kidding. I hope the cyclist is ok. With Comcasts prices I couldn't resist the cheap shot. HISSSSSSS!!!!

I bet the driver of the comcast vehicle didn't have valid DL!

Well, was it a "Comcast" tech or was it a comcast "contractor"? The contractors are one notch away from psychopathic vagrants. They're the ones who are unconnected to any family and frequent the t**** bars and get into shoot outs. If I were getting cable, I wouldn't let one of those things in my house. I wouldn't put it past them to not bother breaking so they can stay on schedule and get in as many installs as possible. Funny, you'd think with all the griping about gas, people wouldn't be getting cable... All that money a month so you can sit there and veg. like a burn out, because you don't know how to fill your own time. What a way to live a life. Anything I care to watch ends up on dvd, or I can rent from the library. Up to 15-90/mo. to have a constant stream of boob tubage coming into the house!? Ehh, just seems dumb. Have a nice damn day!

Goose-Grease? Do you cook with it or lube your car with it? Maybe it's a hair product for certain people who wear shower caps on their heads? Honk Honk

Ok firdt off to settle alot of the debate of what happen to cause this comcast was going west on vistula bicyclist was going east both on their own sides of the road.....comcast going to fast sswearved to miss geese(instead of stopping)right in to the bike s lane hit the kid head on the comcast driver then ended up on the east side of the road in the grass point south west the kid was not at fault I KNOW I SEEN THE ACCIDENT so quit throwing stones at this kid

Goose-grease!

quit your complaining and grumbling about the comcast driver. He is not a perfect person and neither is anybody else. We all make mistakes. Those technicians are always overbooked and overworked and theres nothing they can do about it (supervisors dont care, they just keep piling on the work). Thats not excusing him, but you people are just using this accident as an excuse to throw in all of your comcast complaints. -- and TODD, literally 75% of the work orders are always screwed up...telling techs to bring one thing when the customer actually wanted another thing -- customer service should learn how to put together a work order. anyways...hopefully everything turns out alright for all parties involved. im sure the comcast tech will either get a long unpaid suspension or lose his job. more likely the 2nd.

First off the news should get it right and not make up stories of what happened, the geese where not even involved in the whole situation to begin with. Plus bikers should also look before they cross the road, NOT HAVE THEIR HEADPHONES BLARING, and not just dart in front of cars like the guy did.

The driver IS most likely a card carrying member of the ACLU, a democRat and a long haired hippy friend of jesus who was driving a vehicle that wasn't properly maintained. Most likely some back yard greseay sleeze ball Mekanik used autozone do it your self brake stuff and he couldn't stop without hitting someone. So the driver hits the kid to assure that someone will get free cable for life and a free education while the parents of the kid get some cash too--pain and suffering is expensive. Ask an attorney. I wonder if the geese are really Canadians? J/kiddin folks--it's really not a good thing for anyone.

OMG! I hate it when that happens--darn geese causing trouble again. Where is Sweeney, Pffier, Morgan, Stesiak, Jullian, and the rest of the gang? Filing a law suit for the bicycle rider or for the driver against the geese. I hope the Mishawaka Police did a complete investigation--after all those geese may be on the FBI Ten Most Wanted List! Honk Honk!

wow, did they have to call out one ambulance, and then anouther because the first one didnt have the equipment to do the job right, and after anouther 6 phone calls and 2 trips you have 3 guys standing in your living room telling you its the settings on your tv...lol

While I feel sorry for the Comcast driver, as a driver who goes through that area all the time, I would hit the geese before I'd hit the cyclist. Of course, I do believe there is something called brakes on vehicles. Wouldn't it have been better to stop than to swerve? That's what I do almost every time I drive down Vistula! I don't know how fast he was going but I do know that the speed limit through there is only 30!

Hey Carol - same thing happened to me on my way home from work 2 days ago! I was almost hit by a Comcast driver too. Seems like they need to review some driving policies with their employees. SLOW DOWN PEOPLE!!!

Are the geese going to be ok, Uncle Lar?

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 9, 2008 at 09:04 AM
This is an unfortunate accident. The drivers on the road need to remember that there are bikes on the streets. I know the family of the biker and he is very lucky to be alive. I understand the van driver was speeding. I hope this accident makes the van driver think about his actions while driving to fast and learns to use more caution when approaching bikes etc on the streets. Accidents do happen and Im sure it must be a horrible feeling the be the driver of the van. The boy is recovering at home and will be ok in the end. God blessed this family for sure.

just an update, I know the boy that was hit. Accidents do happen and cars need to use caution when driving on the roads. The boy is home recovering and will be ok.

Two words...Dish Network

As a general rule swerving to miss animals is a bad idea.. braking in a straight line while sounding your horn is the best strategy.

Posted by: Rick Location: Mishatucky on Jul 9, 2008 at 08:25 AM
I live in that neighborhood and it was just a matter of time until something like this happened. I bicycle down Vistula all the time. The bike may have scared the geese into the path of the truck. I have personally seen that happen. The driver could be totally at fault, who knows. I hope the biker recovers and hope the van driver is more aware in that neighborhood from now on.

First they screw us out of the Big11Ten Network, now this! Communistcast got a lot of splainin' to do!

Lets face it...we have to some idiot drivers on our roads. More and more people are beginning to ride their bikes & there are drivers who can care less about their safety. I was behind a 'frustrated' driver a few days ago who I could clearly see was getting more agitated with a lady who was on her bike. (By the way, the lady also a child in a child's seat on her bike.) This guy laid on his horn and then just hit the gas peddle. She was pretty close to the curb as it was, so of course she crashed and the driver just kept on going. We were not on a busy street or anything. I stopped along with another driver to make sure she and her daughter were okay. I'm not buying the comcast guy's story until it's proven.

Wow, at least those poor geese are safe. Good job to the van driver not many people know that it's better to hit a human than a DUCK. Way to go hero.

Accidents happen and most often very quickly. This can happen to anyone! Sure people go way to fast but dont be to quick to blame.. Everyone is guilty of speeding and pushing the limit even though you know you should not. Just my 2 cents worth..

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 8, 2008 at 11:57 PM
Wow not only was that first post just plain mean, But it was poorly written. Proof read before you send! My heart goes out to the person on the bike, And the driver of the van!

I wonder if this was the same Comcast driver who cut in front of me on Edison so he could turn into their business. He was speeding at the time and nearly hit the front of my car. Luckily I have good brakes!

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 8, 2008 at 10:07 PM
My heart goes out to the bicyclist and for the comcast driver you were going to fast down Vistula everyone from this area knows those geese are there.I hope this man recovers with no damage .I hope you can live with the guilt that if people today werent in such a hurry or on their cell phones life wouldn't pass them by and innoccent people wouldn't be getting hurt or killed I know what happen cause I seen the accident

COMCRAP SUCKS, This is a perfect example of how well there drivers our trained. These are the same driver/technicians providing cable service and servicing your home. Wait until they run over you child in your driveway. THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. Go to www.broadbandreports.com and serch Comcast and see all the accidents they have been involved in. Recently 2 comcast techs were drag racing and injured a 3 year old. THANK GOD FOR DIRECTV AND DISH.

I hope the guy is ok. I also hope Comcast doesn't raise my rates any more.
