When the best riders in Motocross hit the track in Buchanan this weekend for the RedBud National, not many will have a better feel for the track than the Sewell brothers.

21-year-old Travis and his 19-year-old brother Shane have raced at RedBud all their lives. They grew up and still live just 40 minutes from Buchanan in Westville, Indiana.

Because it’s their home track, this weekend’s race is big for the Sewells.

And when it comes to get ready for a big race, the two are always on each other’s heels during practice.

"You always have someone that is equal your speed or faster,” younger brother Shane explains. “Everyday you go out and you have to push."

Travis agrees, saying that each is better than the other in different aspects of racing. It makes things very competitive in a positive way for both.

"Me being older, I want to be better than him and him being younger, he wants to be better than me,” Travis explains.

For now, older brother Travis is the better of the two. He competes on the main series and is ranked 26th in the points standings.

Shane competes in the Motorcross Lites series. Both events are raced at the same track one after the other each weekend. So it allows the brothers to constantly be together.

But six weeks ago, there was a rare race in California where Travis wasn't at his brother's side. And that’s where Shane suffered a broken bone in his back.

Travis admits it was hard knowing he could not be with his brother while he made the cross country trip back home.

For Shane, his goal as soon as he heard the news, was to make his return at RedBud.

"Once the doctor told me it was going to be a month, we didn't want to rush back too soon,” Shane explains.

I’ve been riding for about a week now, and this is the right event to come back to."

And even though Travis will be worrying about his big race, he'll be keeping tabs and making sure his younger brother is doing ok this weekend.

“I'll definitely be watching him hoping he's out there doing what he's able to do,” Travis says.

"If I was in his shoes, I probably wouldn't be racing here.”

Shane, meanwhile, just wants the weekend to get here.

"It's a lot of nerves--a lot of excitement--but mostly nerves,” Shane admits laughing.

When it’s all said and done, the Sewell brothers are hoping to make their family and friends and most importantly---each other—--proud this weekend.
