A section of Eddy Street will be closed until next summer for construction of a 200-million-dollar project.

Eddy will close from Edison to Napoleon -- just south of Notre Dame's campus -- on Monday, and won't reopen until 2009.

Developers are working on the Eddy Street Commons project there.

Workers will be putting in sewer, water, and gas lines, and will be doing road work for the project.

Tony, you didn't get the memo. Has the soil and water table been tested. Just north of that site is several hundred homes on well water. Could this construction site disturb the aquifer going in their direction. Ask the residents who live by the rail yards in Elkhart if it matters.

Mike, do you realize that water coming through the sewers to the project doesn't come in contact with the ground water? Therefore, it doesn't matter what was dumped there. A park in Syracuse used to be a garbage dump, but now it is a lush green park that has never experienced any problems.

The construction site currently east of Eddy and south of Edison Rd. was a dump site for the University of Notre Dame at one time. I know for a fact that hazardous waste from the chemistry labs and other departments have been dumped their. My question is? Has the soil and water table been tested, before the start of this construction.
