Indiana Second District Congressman Joe Donnelly announced his bid for re-election Monday in South Bend.

The congressman spoke at Deluxe Sheet Metal in South Bend.

Donnelly spoke of issues currently affecting Americans -- especially here in Indiana -- like the housing crisis, gas prices, and the job market.

Donnelly also addressed war veterans as he spoke about his recent trips to Iraq to visit Indiana soldiers

“We have other veterans here from Iraq and Afghanistan to World War II. Those men and women are the ones who gave us our freedom and our protection, and it's our obligation to stand up for them,” said Donnelly.

In November, Donnelly will be running against Republican candidate Luke Puckett for the Second District seat.

Dustin, what I mean about being in the air..he flies home almost every weekend on the tax payers dime, he flew over to the war zones as a freshman political figure who was not known by hardly any of the troops. Total waste of money. And, he has made countless other trips. I want our congressman on the ground, in Washington, representing us. That is fine if he comes home, but do it on a week day when his local office is open.

Joe is a joke...all talk. None of his VA hospital idea's came to be anything, he has changed his opinion on fuel prices three times in the last month and a half, and I would not be talking about Luke there Dustin...Joe spent way more time in the air during the first half of his term then most. He has only been out in the public exposure the last four months when the election process started...now he is over doing it. I think he realizes his error and is trying to make up for it. Joe's opinion closely follows the popular one at the time he is asked. He will change it in a second, and has, when key Democratic leaders suggest new actions on gas spending. First he wanted to release the reserves, then he wanted to go after the oil companies, then release the reserves, then he wanted to go after the speculators, then back to release the reserves. Who knows what it is this week.

To Dustin: As an "Area Vet" Mr. Donnelly's actions haven't meant a thing to me. I've heard talk before. I was hoping for actions. Very disappointing.

Hey JOE, DRILL IN ANWAR. There is more oil there than in Saudi Arabia. Let's stop giving the money to the middle east. Let's drill our OWN oil and put Americans to work for a change.

The only annoyance on the south side is that building at 4133 South Main Street in South Bend. And, yes, "Anonymous" I am going door to door. If Puckett had any sense he would be doing the same; here, not in ANWR. When you try to shoot the messenger (me, in this case) it does not help your cause. By the way, I am not your secretary. If you want to know what bills Joe Donnelly has sponsored or passed, try Google.

I agree with Dustin. Donnelly has been every bit as affective in the House as Obama has been in the Senate. Neither has anything to brag about. They can only say what they "helped" to do or tried (failed) to do. Dustin, what is the most important bill Donnelly sponsored (that passed)?

It's Dustin Blythe again, spewing forth his attempts at knowledge! Dustin, are you going door-to-door for Donnelly, annoying all the people on the south side again?

If he were a baseball player he would be sent to the minors for having such a poor average. Bring in the next clown.

You have my vote!

Just go away Joe, you have been a complete waste of time.

Unlike our previous Congressman, who tended to spend more time on the golf course than in Congress, Joe has put in a lot of time both in session and in the district. He helped pass a crucial piece of the latest farm bill that has won him the support of many small farmers in the southern part of the district. He has also fought for a VA hospital in Mishawaka. Even if that does not come to pass, the mere fact that he tried means a lot to area veterans. Joe has also been a strong voice for area veterans on multiple issues. I believe that he will continue to learn with experience and only get better. He deserves our votes. His opponent, on the other hand, could not seem to make up his mind whether or not he wanted to run in the first place. Now that he is in he is trying to be "Mr. Republican" by saying all of the things that he thinks Republican voters want to hear.

Hey Donnley, how about legislation to reduce the speed limit back to 55. Just think of how many billions barrels of oil will be saved. So slow down people, and save money. The truckers are all ready doing it, and we have done it, and it works.

Has he done anyting to expect to re-elected? Nope.

What do you mean, Mark? Look at all Donnelly's done for his district. First he's gotten the Va Hos- oh, that didn't work. What about his ideas for oil, oh. Ummm. Can anybody think of anything? Well, it's only been one term. His last.
