At least a dozen volunteers from Michiana are helping out in the flooded stricken areas in South Central Indiana.

Tuesday morning four AM general employees with Red Cross training were deployed to the Red Cross Headquarters in Indianapolis to help in assigned locations.

The Hummer drivers will take their trucks into high waters where most SUVs can't go.

Also an Indiana State Police Dive Team from the Bremen post just got back after spending a day in the Seymour area. The team trained in dealing with high water rescue helped at least a dozen people.

“It is just a fulfilling moment when you can go down there and help people,” says Sgt. Trent Smith from the Indiana State Police.

“When you are talking about natural disasters the government can't always step in. It has got to be each other that we depend upon,” says Paul Hyde from AM General.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security reports that at least 300 people are still in shelters.

Officials haven't been able to estimate the amount of money the flooding has caused in damage.

The Red Cross in St. Joseph County is still looking for trained volunteers who would like to help.
