Several members of the Notre Dame College Republicans met Thursday for a protest outside Congressman Joe Donnelly’s South Bend office.

The protest came complete with costumes and aimed to raise awareness of the American Solutions Petition.

The petition calls for the utilizing of American oil resources, in hopes of lowering gas prices.

The group says 300,000 Americans have inked the petition so far and they hoped today's event would encourage the Democratic congressman to get on board.

If there's oil outside Donnelly's office, they should be drilling. I don't understand why they're holding it.

CJ, at least the Republicans have an energy policy. Left to the left, we will get windfall profits punishment rationing and an oil price that will knock your socks off. I especially like how this paper chose to describe a groups action to get a politician on board. They are not protesting, they were asking for action from a Congressman

CJ, why do you feel the need to stereotype these young Republicans in such a negative manner? These college kids are trying to do something positive but bigots like you will be against them just because of their political affiliation. It is a shame that you do not see them as fellow Americans looking for a solution to the oil problems we currently have. America is in trouble unless we all pull together and work as a team for the common good of the country.

If you cared enough about the subject they were talking about to go to the website about American Solutions, you'd find it's a bipartisan group. That's what the article is about and why they were trying to get Donnelly's attention to JOIN the petition. See past the labels once in awhile.

CJ, watch the republican bashing after all Senator Kennedy is the largest single share holder of oil stock (B&P Petroleum) and gas has more then doubled since the democrats took control of Congress 18 months ago. Bush has been trying to get this drilling done for close to a couple of years but between the Democratic congress, the EPA and the animal rights/tree hugger special interest groups it isn't happening. We need to get this drilling done and then tell the Arabs to Kiss This. After all gas in Saudi is less then $.50 a gallon.

When are they going to stop lying? They're only interested in drilling for oil in America now that prices are so high. If drilling for oil in America was so cheap we would've been doing it all along to save on the cost of shipping. But it isn't; it's very expensive to drill for oil here; and if prices did drop they'd sell the oil overseas to jerk the price back up. It's a hollow stunt, and nothing more. Which pretty well sum Puckett up as well.

I want to commend the ND College Republicans. I think it is great that these students are trying to draw attention to the fact that Rep. Donnelly has consistently voted against American by voting against drilling and refining domestically. It is time Rep. Donnelly and the rest of his liberal congress stops standing up for foreign oil companies, and start standing up for the people who elected them - Americans.
