On Friday night, the South Bend Police Department, with the Fraternal Order of Police, will be holding its annual remembrance of fallen officers.

The memorial will be held on Friday, May 9 at 9:00 p.m. in front of the Fallen Officer's Memorial at the main entrance of the South Bend Police Department on 701 West Sample Street.

This year's ceremony will be the first held in the evening. It was changed this year to give more families of officers, friends and the general public the chance to attend.

The memorial is also being held prior to the observation of National Law Enforcement Week, to allow several South Bend officers to attend national ceremonies in Washington D.C.

Corporal Nick Polizzotto's name will be added to the Fallen Officers Memorial in Washington.

Well K I'm sorry that you have needed the police hopefully nobody you care about was hurt because if they were I am sure you would want to honor them without judgement. Fallen soldiers have earned and deserve memorials. In every kind of job, there are going to be people that don't give it the respect it deserves but the point of my comment was to let the SBPD and their families mourn their loss without people complaining about how much it is costing the "taxpayers". I hope if you have any further run ins or arrests that you are treated with the exact respect you are given.

Believe me B there have been plenty of times we've needed the police and very few times did we get a decent officer. There are so many of them that think their badge gives them the right to speak and treat us civlians like crap and they should be So respected. Well let me tell you B, respect is something Earned Not Given and when you hear of this officer peeing in the street and other ones stealing evidence and there are plenty more and they get suspended WITH PAY?? Were they hancuffed and taken thru jail and put in a cell? No they are sent home and payed. What a crock!! You talk about candlelight vigils, do you every see anyone doing that for our fallen soldiers? Does anyone out there get endless phone calls do donate to fallen soliers? No but we get the phone calls to donate to the police force. How much money do they need for not doing their job properly?? Call me heartless and scum or whatever you want, but I myself and others know this is true. God bless you all!

Tax payer dollars. Such a lame excuse to use against cops. Last I checked genius, cops pay taxes too. The service is only once a year during Law Enforcement week and costs little if no money to put on. There's no overtime allowed and everyone volunteers their time. Get a life!

Officers do know the risks and with your nasty attitudes I hope you never need them to help you or your family member. Recheck how your tax money is truely spent I bet you will find not much goes to fund the police depts. or their memorials. Quit complaining about your tax dollars, police officers pay taxes to. I'm sure these officers families don't feel it is a party ride. Try being respectful as I am sure you would want people to respect your loss. If you pay attention there are alot of candlelight vigils for victims also but I am willing to bet none of you are out there. Try to quit looking for any excuse to bash the police.

C and BrianLewis need to grow up. Unlike the seedy ticks on the underbelly of a wart hog who see only the rough side of the law (probably because they deserve it), I appreciate the sacrifices of our police officers. Most people appreciate the work they do even if they take it for granted. We like peace, safety, someone to turn to with problems... and sometimes it takes a ceremony or memorial to remind us of how glad we are to have it. Thanks officers.

It's all fun and games until it's your family ME!!!!! LOL, a victim is a victim... some officers wouldn't be victims if they also weren't in trouble. GOD BLESS THE VICTIMS!

Haven't we had enough memorials and celebrations at the tax payers expense? It seems like all the cops do anymore is hold endless memorials to eachother. There is no other profession that has taxpayer funded wakes and celebrations when an employee is injured or killed. Enough with the free party ride. Police officers know the danger when they sign up. They chose to live the life they do. We should not have to fund their endless memorials.

Fallen victims????!!!!! Oh please, Most would not be "victims" if the losers would not break the law..... C, you are a loser... God Bless the Police.

What about honoring the victims of police officers???? Hmmmm... just something to think about. I've never been arrested, but I've SEEN PLENTY OF BRUTALITY!!! Something to think about. Not all officers are bad, but while we're remembering the fallen officers, can we also remember the "fallen" victims
