Moose Krause Chapter honors football scholar-athletes

The top football scholar-athletes in Michiana were honored Thursday night at the 34th Annual Moose Krause Dinner.
The dinner recognizes the football players who have achieved the most not only on the field, but more importantly in the classroom.
Notre Dame assistant coaches Jappy Oliver and Bernie Parmalee served as the guest speakers.
Marian head coach and athletic director Reggie Glon was recognized for his contributions to the sport of football.
Below is the list of high school football players who were honored Thursday night.
John Aversa (St. Joseph)-- Starting defensive end, helped lead Indians to State championship game, ranked 2nd in class of 214, National Merit Semi-Finalist.
Joseph Borrelli (Marian)-- WR for the Knights while also competing in golf, track and basketball, Academic All-State. Volunteers at a homeless center and at a nursing home.
Ben Brandstatter (Niles)--Rushed for more than 3,500 yards and 40 touchdowns for the Vikings, state qualifier in wrestling twice, ranked 6th in class of 252.
Chris Brennan (Marian)-- 3-year letter winner as a guard, Academic All-State, awarded the Serra Exemplar and the Medal of Excellence for two years.
Robert Crumlich (New Prairie)--- Earned 11 varsity letters in football, wrestling, and track & field, AP All-State, ranked 17th in class of 183.
Zachary Foreman (New Prairie)-- A member of the football, wrestling and track & field teams, ranked 7th in class of 193, grand champion for best project at 4H Fair.
Brian Groendyke (Mishawaka)-- Offensive lineman and track and field member, ranked 1st in class of 378 with a perfect 4.0 GPA, Academic All-State, trumpet player in the school band and guitarist at his church.
Kenneth Kozinski (Marian)-- 2-year starter at offensive guard, also participated in basketball and track & field, Academic All-State, will play football at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Matt McCollough (Elkhart Memorial)-- led football team in tackles while serving as co-captain, starting catcher on the baseball team, ranked 1st in class of 388, President of the National Honor Society.
Kevin Plude (Marian)--safety on the football team, also participated in wrestling and track, serves as an altar boy and Eucharistic minister.
Mitchell Speer (St. Joseph)--Mental-Attitude Award winner in football, helping lead the Indians to the state championship game, Academic-All State, ranked 5th in class of 214, served as school's "Indian" Mascot during basketball season.
Michael Tomchaney (Adams)-- Tight end for two seasons while also playing for the soccer team, ranked 16th in his class, volunteers at a homeless center, the Hope Rescue Mission, the Food Bank, and the Milton Nursing Home.
Tony Torma (Marian)-- 2-year starter on offensive and defensive lines, also a member of the track and field team, Academic All-State, volunteers at auctions and hospitals.
