The Cook Nuclear Plant, operated by American Electric Power, followed its emergency procedures this morning as a result of the earthquake.
Procedures are in place at nuclear plants that require emergency plan activation for some natural or weather-related events, including earthquakes.
Even though no alarms went off at the plant indicating an emergency, the lowest level of emergency classifications was declared around 6:00am.
The Cook plant inspected all systems and equipment for damage. So far, no damage has been identified.
Unit 1 was already off because of a refueling outage, Unit 2 was at full power at the time of the earthquake, and remains at full power with no plans to reduce its power output.
