It's been a cold, wet weekend—not so good for doing yard work, but great for messing up your yard.

Sod-Busters held their spring On-Road, Off-Road Rally this afternoon.

About 40 drivers made the trek from the South Bend Motor Speedway to the club's property near Darden.

The course was about 50 miles from start to finish. It was made a little shorter than normal to help offset rising gas prices.

“The thing is when your off-roading your locked in four wheel drive, your spinning tires revving the engine up having a good time so yeah, your going to use a little bit more fuel,” said Sod-Busters member Terry Kurtz. “We wanted to keep this small and short enough where people can come out and have fun and not worry about the gas prices so much.”

Sod-Busters is getting geared up for the spring Mud Bog, which is coming up on may 25th.

Okay, i have no clue who you are but we are not off waisting money. ITS ALL FOR FUN! and it is alot of fun. My parents have been members of sod busters for a while now and i am in love with it! i love all of the mud bogs and road rallys and the freedom of going and driving in the trails. much more fun than alot of things, because south bend and elkhart dont have many things for entertainment. Also my parents are in the michiana jeep club and they have road rallys too but i think that sod busters are way more fun, i've been in both of them and its definately a rush (: I LOVE SOD BUSTERSS. (:

This to all the folks that think we have money to burn. When off-roading is the only hobby you have or care to indulge in, then the price of gas is just part of what you do. It's not money to burn, it's where we decide to spend our money. Most of the people who do this work for a living just like everybody else, none of us are rich. After all, we are playing in the mud in South Bend, not power boating off the coast of Florida. Besides you don't see NASCAR not racing because of the price of fuel.

sometimes you just need to say ***%^ it and have a good time. the money spent on gas is well worth the rush. i don't do trucks, but quads rock. i will do it every chase i get, to forget the hassles of life, every chance i get. just to bust out and forget is worth the price. every hobby costs money after all

yes,us fools were out bustin sod. name me a hobby that doesn't cost you anything to do. I figure it cost me about $15.00 in gas. can you play a round of golf for that?

Hang in there Nathan, you will be bustin sod before you know it. Also, it is never too soon to begin studying all the safety requirements for this type of driving.

Let's see... gas is nearly $3.50/gallon and these fools are bustin' sod. Glad someone's got money to burn.
