New Buffalo middle schoolers show their smarts
So you think you're smarter than your middle school child? Kids in New Buffalo think you should think again.

It’s commonly thought that the older you get the wiser you get. Some folks in New Buffalo put that theory to the test Wednesday night, when they asked the question “Are you smarter than a middle schooler?”
A dozen or so adult members of the community competed against 30 middle school students in the subjects of math, science history and English.
When all the questions were answered, and the scores were tallied, the wisdom that comes with age didn't prevail over the brain buster prowess of New Buffalo’s middle schoolers.
The outcome didn't come as a surprise to the defeated adults, or the victorious students.
“That doesn’t surprise me because my mom sometimes I’ll ask her things she just doesn’t know anything about math, but I go to my dad and he knows everything,” Kyle Poncin, a 6th grader tells NewsCenter 16.
“The expectation was that they were going to win, and so they came through, and we’re very proud of them,” Lisa Werner, school board president says.
All of the questions for the game were from Michigan standardized tests. This was the first year for the event, and they hope to make it an annual thing.
