The Edwardsburg community is devastated after divers found the body of their close friend Wednesday.

Police say 50 year-old Bradley Eye drove his all terrain vehicle into open water in Garver Lake.

Friends say he was last seen late Monday night or early Tuesday.

Police say they didn't get word of a missing person until 10 o'clock Tuesday night.

Friends say there's no question, Brad loved the outdoors, he loved Garver Lake, and he loved his ATV, that's why what happened remains a mystery.

They're thinking about Brad's family, his son in his early 20's and his daughter who will graduate high school very soon without her dad.

They're also questioning why the response time to find they're friend wasn't as quick as they expected.

Chuck Hedger says, “It's still a mystery.”

It's a mystery to police and heartbroken, hometown friends.

Hours after divers found Brad Eye's body and his ATV in the water near his home on Garver lake, they still can't believe this isn't all a nightmare.

Hedger says, “This man grew up on this lake and he lived here his entire life. He knows every inch of it.”

He also was known to take off on his a-t-v.

Pamela Futrell says, “He did everything with it, but on the lake it surprised me because he didn't like this ice.”

Edwardsburg Police say he drove the ATV in open water.

They say they didn't get the call until 10 o'clock Tuesday night that Eye was missing.

There was no indication to search in the water at that point.

The search continued Wednesday morning, though they admit it took some time to get divers in place.

By 3:15 p.m., they found Eye's body.

Still, his friends say the recovery response time wasn't what they expected.

Futrell says, “This is a human being, a friend, a brother. There's nobody here in Edwardsburg that didn't know Brad. He was great for benefits. If something were to happen to anyone he would be the first to jump in and get something done.”
