Work is underway to make the intersection of Western and Walnut safer.
For more than five years plans have been discussed to improve the intersection of Western Avenue and Walnut Street, south of the downtown area.
The project is costing more than $1.5 million. Once construction is complete drivers will be unable to turn on Walnut Street underneath the railroad overpass. Rather, they will use a ramp that will be installed.
Construction will be complete next spring, but the intersection will be open during the majority of the time work is underway.
