Police are telling store owners to keep an eye out for fake checks that look like they're from Ivy Tech Community College, according to our reporting partners at the Michigan City News Dispatch.
Last month, police say a man cashed a $973 check at a "Checks For Cash" in Michigan City. It was made to look like a loan-related check from Ivy Tech, but Ivy Tech officials say the school isn't sending out those loan refund checks yet.
They say there have been several of these checks appearing around the state, and police say counterfeit checks and cash in general are becoming more widespread because printers are more available.
