A transformer fire late Tuesday knocks out power in part of Middlebury.
Elkhart County police say the fire broke out just before 11 p.m. at a transformer on S.R. 120 between S.R. 13 and C.R. 39. Witnesses told NewsCenter 16 the smoke could be seen for miles.
NIPSCO crews said it would take about 12 hours to get all the power restored.
As of 2 a.m. Wednesday, all the stop lights were up and running and a few households had their power back.
Crews will continue to work through the rest of morning until all power has been restored.
There's no word on what caused the fire. No one was hurt.
