A South Bend police officer was taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon after being injured by a vehicle.
It happened around noon on Portage Road near Hamlin Court on the city's northwest side.
Captain Phil Trent tells NewsCenter16 that Sergeant Brian Kendall was off duty and assisting other officers at an accident scene when one of the cars shifted or fell out of gear, pinning Kendall between two vehicles.
He was taken to Memorial Hospital with a possible compound fracture of his leg, but police say he's in good spirits and is expected to be okay.
Kendall is a school resource officer assigned to Riley High School in South Bend.
