The new mayor of Gary has launched a campaign encouraging residents of the northwest Indiana city to do good deeds during the month of February.
The Times of Munster reports that Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson said Friday that the campaign allows people to look outside themselves to see what they can do for others.
Northwest Indiana nonprofit organizations are encouraging people to video extraordinary good deeds and post them on a special designated "Good Deed" Facebook page. The campaign runs Feb. 6-20.
Freeman-Wilson spent months organizing task forces to find ways to revitalize the near-bankrupt city before taking over as mayor last month.
