State police say a man who fired on two Muncie police officers is dead, one officer is hospitalized in stable condition and the other was treated and released following a shootout near the Ball State University campus.
State police Sgt. John Bowling says authorities don't know why the man began shooting at police in a convenience store parking lot. He says the man was sitting in his car backed into a parking spot and began shooting through his windshield when an unmarked police car and a marked police car pulled in.
The driver of the unmarked car was hit in the shoulder, but it was stopped by his bulletproof vest. Officer Steve Baugh was shot in the face.
Bowling says the gunman still hasn't been identified.
