Hammond judge dismisses racial profiling suit
Hammond, Ind. A federal judge has dismissed a civil lawsuit that accused two northwestern Indiana police officers of racial profiling and excessive force.

A federal judge has dismissed a civil lawsuit that accused two northwestern Indiana police officers of racial profiling and excessive force.
The Times of Munster reports that the judge ruled Monday that there was no evidence Corey Shepard was treated differently during a 2007 traffic stop because he is black.
The judge also dismissed Shepard's claims the two Lake County
police officers used excessive force while arresting him during that traffic stop, saying it was Shepard's own lack of cooperation that necessitated the use of any force.
The Hammond man sued the officers in 2009, claiming they targeted him because he is black. Shepard was a passenger in a car
pulled over for expired tags. Officers arrested Shepard after discovering he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
