Authorities say a 9-year-old girl from Kokomo has died after being mauled by her family's pit bull.
Savannah R. Gragg had surgery at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis to repair injuries to her neck and trachea from Saturday's attack. Howard County Sheriff Marty Talbert says she died at the hospital Thursday.
Investigators say Savannah was opening a door at the home to the let the dog out when it jumped on her, knocking her to the floor. The animal bit her around the neck, and shook her violently.
The child's grandmother witnessed the attack and tried to free the girl from the dog's grip. An investigation continues.
