Bloomington officials plan for work to start this spring on revamping much a main street through the southern Indiana city's downtown.
The city has awarded a $1.6 million contract for the project on Kirkwood Avenue for three blocks west of the courthouse square.
Public works director Susie Johnson says the project will add new brick sidewalks, planters, benches and streetlights. She says the work also will tie the sidewalk and streetscape into the B-Line pedestrian trail and be similar to work done on Kirkwood as it approaches the Indiana University campus.
Construction is expected to start in May 10 and take about four months to complete.
