An ornate brass clock that once told shoppers at a northwestern Indiana department store the time is being restored to its former glory by volunteers.
Members of the Northwest Indiana chapter of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors are wrapping up restoration of clock's internal mechanisms. By next month, they hope all the faces on the four-sided clock are again keeping accurate time.
The clock was a six-decade fixture at Hammond's Goldbatt's department store and was rescued before the store's 1992 demolition.
The timepiece was installed at the Hammond Public Library's main location in 2002.
Clock enthusiast Richard Tomaszewski remembers its prominent place at Goldbatt's. He's excited that it's in working order again, saying it's a beautiful clock.
