Some Indiana University professors are working on plans to start a boarding school nearly half a world away for inner-city youths from around the state.
The professors want to use Indiana teachers following the state's educational standards for a school in the African nation of Ghana that would be funded by $4 million in donations and the per-student funding provided by the state.
IU law professor Kevin Brown tells The Indianapolis Star that the core idea is to put the students into an environment where they can thrive.
Indianapolis Public Schools officials say they'd be interested in participating but say there are many legal and financial challenges that could be insurmountable.
