The NCAA plans to more than double its office space in downtown Indianapolis with a $35 million expansion that it expects to start by next spring.

NCAA spokesman Bob Williams says its current building was built 10 years ago for about 350 employees but that the group now has some 500 staffers.

Williams says the project will be financed with about $2 million a year that the NCAA is currently spending for rental space and other savings.

The new four-story building will be built next to its existing headquarters at White River State Park. Much of the ground floor will have meeting and conference rooms so that it can host more of the group's national meetings.
