Fall farming season is upon us and Indiana State Police want to remind drivers that it means large farm equipment will be on the roads soon.
Officers say drivers should be aware of slow moving machines and be prepared to slow or stop to avoid a rear-end collision.
Most equipment travels at speeds of 25 miles per hour or less, so there are a couple things to keep in mind before passing farm machinery: check for any turn lights or hand signals to make sure the machinery isn't turning left, make sure the road is wide enough for both your vehicle and the machinery, and be sure there is enough distance for you to safely pass.
Most importantly, police say extra patience and careful driving habits will help prevent farm-vehicle collisions.
