Three women are leading an effort to raise enough money to keep Alexandria's city pool open this summer despite city budget restraints.
Mayor Jack Woods recently decided to close the central Indiana city's swimming pool this summer instead of cutting public jobs amid the city's tight budget.
But Alexandria residents Vanessa Hosier, Penny Stevens and Sherry Brown don't want to see that happen. The women are trying to raise enough money to run the pool for two summers.
Hosier says that closing the pool would be another letdown for the central Indiana town of about 5,800 that's struggling with several business closures amid the economic recession.
She says that if the pool is closed it would just be another sign the town is dying.
