19-year-old Alejandro Tinoco, who was shot Wednesday night in South Bend, has died. The coroner has ruled his death a homicide, stating that he had been shot in the head at least once.

A second shooting victim, 19-year-old Jazmin Conlee, remains in critical condition and on life support and is not expected to survive. The gunman is still on the loose.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday inside a home at 1101 N. Adams Street, on South Bend's Northwest side.

Sources close to the investigation say upon forcing his way into the home, the sole gunman shot Tinoco and Conlee multiple times. During the scuffle, a third teen escaped from the house, prompting the gunman to chase after him. Police are not releasing the 19-year-old’s name for his own protection.

For the next 20 minutes, Tinoco and Conlee were left bleeding severely until their friend safely made his way back into the home, found his cell phone and dialed 9-1-1.

It then took another five minutes before police arrived and secured the scene. It was only then that paramedics could treat the couple found unresponsive and barely breathing.

The South Bend Police Department has since kept an officer posted outside the crime scene to guard what’s expected to become a double homicide.

Friends say Tinoco, a former Clay High School student, was a tattoo artist. Conlee had also attended Clay High School, before transferring to Mishawaka High School.

As the couple’s closest friends gathered at Memorial Hospital Thursday, Tinoco’s roughly 2,000 Facebook friends took to his online account to write words of support.

Sabrina Kring said, "I am so worried about you. You're a strong young man and you have too much potential to let this take you. Keep your head up and please get a hold of me and let me know you're okay. I'm really worried about you, everyone is."

And Pat Kowalewski wrote, “Alex man I don't even know what to say. Everyone's praying for you and Jaz, just keep faith in God cause he's going to pull you through this real quick. Don't worry about a thing, that guy will get his.”

Although investigators won't divulge what led to the attack, a handful of neighbors tell NewsCenter 16, they've long suspected the home to be a drug house. Residents say after moving into the home in November, Tinoco would welcome strangers at all hours of the day and night.

The suspect in this shooting is described as a black male with a light complexion. He was last seen running eastbound on Vassar Avenue wearing a red and blue jacket with a gray hooded sweatshirt underneath.
