Over the past several weeks, NewsCenter 16 has received numerous entries for the 16 Curb Appeal Makeover. Our team of judges reviewed all of the entries and came up with three semi-finalists. In choosing the semi-finalists, we looked for viewers who had a good story to tell; who obviously needed a makeover; and who had the time and the ability to maintain the changes to ensure years of enjoyment from their makeover.

Then we presented their stories to our viewers and let them vote for their favorite. The winner was announced on Wednesday July 14th: Becky Finn ("Weedy in Niles"). With Linton's Enchanted Gardens working with an operating budget of $5,000, the 16 Curb Appeal Makeover has begun what's sure to be an amazing transformation.

"My grass has been eaten alive by creepy, crawly weed! Mowing this mess sends my allergies off the chart! My flower beds are full of pebbles that I have tried to get rid of for years! There’s poison ivy & I suffered it’s effects for 5 months!"

"Christmas Eve I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, after being laid off from a job that I dearly loved! Then came the bi-lateral mastectomy!"

"Medical bills, no job, I’ve lost control!"

"Please help a poor, old lady try to regain some normalcy to her life!"

"I am a Marine that just returned from Iraq not long ago. While I was away my wife had to take care of everything, and on top of it all she’s 8 months pregnant! When I returned home, we bought our first home and it needs some major updates! I would like to win this makeover for my wife, she deserves it, plus it would be nice to welcome our new son to a great front yard to play in! I just want my wife and son to be happy in our new home! They mean the WORLD TO ME!"

"My house was built by my grandfather and has been in the family ever since. In the past five years I’ve had to deal with the loss of my business, a broken foot, two broken knees, type 2 diabetes and its associated side effects, and a quadruple heart bypass surgery. Needless to say, I haven’t had the resources, and no longer have the ability to keep on top of the maintenance and improvements that the venerable old family estate needs and deserves. I have design ideas that will make the place less “haunted” looking but need help making that happen."
