A woman is recovering after being hit by a car in St. Joseph County early Wednesday morning.

The accident happened around 2:50 a.m. about a half-mile away from the Ireland and Ironwood intersection.

Police say the woman was walking westbound on Ireland Road, and was struck by a black Audi also traveling westbound.

She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Audi was taken into custody.
