Two children were hospitalized in critical condition Friday afternoon after a horse pulling a buggy was spooked and dragged the girls.
According to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, around 2:30 p.m. Barbara Miller, of Bourbon, was preparing to leave a home in the 6000-block of N. County Road 750 West and loaded her two girls, ages one and three, into the carriage.
At some point, the horse connected to the carriage became spooked and suddenly backed up, causing the buggy to flip on its side. The two girls slid to an open area and became trapped as the horse dragged the carriage about 50 yards down a stone driveway.
Nearby families immediately called 911. Medics decided to airlift the girls to Parkview Regional Medical Center's trauma center where they were listed in critical condition Friday evening.
