Police are questioning two people in connection with a string of car break-ins in Berrien County.

Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police officers responded to six car break-ins around Berrien Springs, Andrews University and Oronoko Township last Friday.

Using video surveillance, officers were able to identify the suspects and their getaway vehicle.

After interviewing both individuals, police say they admitted to breaking into cars in the Meier Hall parking lot on the Andrews University campus.

"A religious institution such as ours often shuts down in many ways on a Friday afternoon. There's not as much activity, there's no classes and such so it’s very unusual to happen here,” university spokeswoman Kari Suarez said.

Police have also connected the duo to a rash of break-ins throughout Baroda Lake Township early Saturday morning.

There investigators say the crooks broke into 25 cars parked along 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Streets, in addition to the Baroda Estates Mobile Home Park.

Some of the stolen items, including a few hundred dollars in cash and electronics, were recovered in Hickory Creek and nearby front yards in the days since.

Police also recovered a window punch they say the two used to break in the glass on cars. That window punch is shown in the photo attached with this story.

One of the suspect vehicles that police say was used during the break-ins was also seized by officials.

The identities of the two suspects are not being released at this time.

Police remind residents to lock their cars. A quarter of vehicle thefts, including many in this story, stem from people not doing so.

Secondly, conceal all evidence of valuables. That included power plugs, iPod adapters and GPS suction cup mounts.

Finally, keep your windows and sunroofs completely closed. Not doing so could cause your car alarm's pressure sensor to malfunction and not activate should someone break-in.
