UPDATE: Surveillance video captures twin-engine plane crash into homes

More Video...

Two surveillance cameras from nearby businesses captured what could be the only videos of a twin-engine jet falling from the sky Sunday afternoon.

Plastics Solutions Inc. Video

The first black and white video shows the Hawker Beechcraft Premier IA essentially spiral and nose dive into three homes on N. Iowa St. at exactly 4:22:48 p.m. Directly after impact, the tape shows smoke drifting into the afternoon sky from the wreckage.

Plastics Solutions Inc., located along Voorde Dr. about two blocks northwest of the crash site, captured the footage. The company maintains 28 cameras, 20 within its 90,000 square foot plant, and eight on the exterior.

The business, which supplies plastic parts to automobile companies like Subaru, employs about 90 people. None of those workers were in the plant at the time of the crash.

M.R. Falcon Video

The second video picked-up where the other left off. Recorded by a parking lot surveillance camera at M.R. Falcon's, the black and white clip shows the eight-seat jet nearly stabilize before crashing into the homes. Black smoke and debris can then be seen shooting directly upright and outward.

Although M.R. Falcon is normally closed on Sundays, a board meeting was being held inside at the time of the crash.

"One member said she heard what sounded like one of the big FedEx or UPS planes that take off at night. Because we're so close to the airport though, she didn't think anything of it," club vice president Ian Delater said.

All 10 members later discovered the harsh reality of that sound, once their meeting adjourned and they walked outside.

What "May" Still Exist

NewsCenter 16 also contacted the South Bend Regional Airport to see if its system of cameras caught the failed emergency landing along runway 9R-27L. Airport officials would neither confirm or deny if it had any video surveillance, claiming if they did, it was in the hands of the National Transportation Safety Board and not going to be made public at this time.
