A man is dead after crashing his car into a tree in the 1900 block of E. Inwood Rd., near the intersection of S. Ironwood Dr. on South Bend's southeast side around 3:50 a.m Saturday.

Neighbors have confirmed the man was 24-year-old Jon Maure.

A neighbor who heard the crash called police, but no witnesses actually saw the wreck occur, just down the street from his parents home.

Maure, who was alone, was trapped in his car, forcing firefighters to use the Jaws of Life to free him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No others were injured in the crash.

Police do believe speed was a factor in the incident. No word yet on whether alcohol or drugs played a role.

An autopsy has not been scheduled, but will be conducted at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and include blood tests.
