Salvation Army taking applications for Christmas assistance

If you need help for the holidays, now is the time to apply for assistance from the Salvation Army.

The St. Joseph County chapter is accepting applications now through November 22.

On Monday, you can go to the former Family Dollar store on South Chapin St. in South Bend from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. or 1:30-3 p.m.

You must bring a picture ID and social security card for everyone 18 and older in the home, birth certificates for everyone through the age of 17, proof of income for everyone in your home and proof of address, such as a utility bill.

Those who qualify will receive food for a holiday meal as well as toys and other items for kids and teens.

Nov. 15, 16, 17
Former Family Dollar store
234 S. Chapin St. South Bend
9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1:30-3 p.m.

Nov. 21 and 22
1026 Dodge Ave. (intersection with 12th St.)
9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1:30-3 p.m.

Here are some other important notes from the Salvation Army:

--Clients may go to either office, no matter where they live in St. Joe County.
--Families who apply have a random, limited chance of being sponsored through the Adopt-A-Family program.
--Families and individuals without children may apply for food if needed.
--Clients will be disqualified if they apply for Christmas help at more than one agency.
--Pantry and financial assistance programs will be on hiatus during this time until the Kroc Center’s opening – January 30, 2012.
