The Health and Public Safety Committee will discuss the South Bend smoking ban Monday night.
Earlier this year the state decided not to include bars and restaurants in its smoking law.
South Bend is considering picking up where the state left off.
Several council members brought forward a plan last week to ban smoking in most public places, including bars and restaurants.
If passed, it would make it more restrictive than the county ordinance and the upcoming state law.
Four members are publicly on board, and only one more is needed.
The vote will not take place until next week.
The meeting is being held Monday night from 5 to 7 p.m. at the County City building.
