The city of South Bend is losing its last beauty school due to a road extension project.
Premier Beauty College, a longstanding fixture in the local cosmetic world, is shutting its doors at the end of June 2012, after 26 years in business.
The building, located on the 4000-block of South Michigan st., stood in the way of South Bend's Barbie St. extension, soon to cross Michigan and Main streets to Lafayette Boulevard. The school helped launch thousands of respected stylists.
“It's bittersweet, bittersweet,” said the owner Mary Rajski. “But i think that it's something that has to be done and now is the time to retire."
This week the college is selling its complete supply of products and machinery.
That sale runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Saturday.
