Metro Homicide says 18-year-old Christopher Simril died from multiple gunshot wounds to his body after being shot in the 1300 block of West Ewing Avenue in South Bend.

Sunday's shooting happened near Walker Field Park on the city's south side around 6:20p.m.

Police say they found Simril laying unresponsive next to a golden Grand Prix.

They're not sure if the vehicle is the victim's or not, but it was searched and taken from the scene.

Simril was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

It marked the end of a busy day for Metro Homicide, who was also called to Walkerton Sunday afternoon to investigate an apparent suicide. An 18-year-old was found dead from a gunshot wound Saturday night.

Metro Homicide is interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence. They haven't ruled out foul play.

Anyone with information on either case can call CrimeStoppers at 288-STOP or Metro Homicide at 235-5009.
