Robber returns stolen wallet, apologizes

A 67-year-old man was taking out trash around noon Thursday in the 500-block of E. Oakside St. when a man walking down the street tackled him.

During the struggle the robber pinned the victim down and pulled out his wallet. While on top of the senior citizen, the victim told his attacker he had a heart condition.

The suspect then gave him back his wallet, apologized and ran down Fellows Street toward Riley High School.

“I didn't have any money in it and so he just said 'well thank you' and 'I’m sorry' and he got up and left,” said the victim, who didn't want to be identified. “I just laid there for a minute because I was just a little bit in shock.”

Officers are investigating whether the same suspect robbed another man of his wallet around 8 p.m. Thursday in the 200-block of E. Dayton St. Unfortunately the robber wasn't as polite to his next victim.

Police were unable to provide a usable description of the suspect.
