A teacher was arrested in the Penn-Harris-Madison school district this morning for inappropriate communication with a child.

30-year-old Eric West, a 5th grade teacher at Walt Disney Elementary was arrested on a misdemeanor charge.

Eric West is the son of long term Mishawaka city engineer, Gary West. He also has a brother who is in prison for sexual misconduct with 2 minors last year.

St. Joseph County Police arrested Andrew West last year for misconduct with a 15 and 16 year old girl. One victim claimed it happened at Mishawaka City Hall.

The investigation into Eric West continues, and police aren't releasing any more information at this time. One officer says there may be further charges. Police say the minor in question was a former student.

School superintendent Dr. Jerry Thacker says the school has placed West on administrative leave.

Thacker issued a statement claiming in part, "While we do not comment publicaly on peronal matters, we are very concerned about this situation and will work closely with law enforcement officials. Rest assured we will do all things necessary to maintain a safe enviroment for all our students at Penn-Harris-Madison schools."

The case remains under investigation.
