The city of Plymouth is putting some heat on slacking property owners.

It's called “Operation Bright Spot.”

Mayor Mark Senter released a list of eight projects that need work around the city. The list starts with businesses and will focus on working with their owners.

The first and one of the worst properties he listed is the Plymouth Motel. Senter says it has been boarded up halfway but in the back there are still several broken windows. There’s been vandalism, theft and probably squatters at night.

Also across the street only a couple of families stay at the Park Jefferson apartments where trash continues to pile up. Senter says the landlord doesn't pay the trash bill and it doesn't get picked up.

Also there are two hotels that greet people coming into town that are vacant, The Economy Inn and Comfort Suites. City leaders are working with property owners to clean up these buildings, tear them down or sell them to someone who will.

“All I want to do is talk to the owners and if we can get a dialogue started on how we can help them solve their problem,” says Senter.

Those are just some of the properties that were listed by the mayor. The mayor promised to address the problem when he was up for re-election. Next the mayor's office hopes to tear down some house that are abandoned.
