One person in critical condition after Berrien County accident

One person is in critical condition after an accident Sunday just after midnight.

The accident happened on U.S. 12 west of Bakertown in Bertrand Township, Berrien County.

Heather Baker, 23, of South Bend and her passenger, Roman Estrada, 34, were headed westbound on U.S. 12. For reasons still unknown, Baker's Chevy Cavalier crossed the center line and into the path of an eastbound Ford Ranger.

Baker is in critical condition and is being treated at Memorial Hospital. Estrada was treated and released.

The unidentified driver of the Ford Ranger was also treated and released.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
