While some companies are having to cut back, one company in South Bend, Ind. is expanding.
McCormick & Co. will be filling 25 jobs by the end of the year, according to company management.
Some of these are totally new jobs while others stem from long-time employees retiring by the end of 2011.
The South Bend Common Council approved a tax abatement request for the company. Now, McCormick is paying it forward to Michiana residents.
“It is a lot of activity, it is a lot of change,” plant manager Mike Calhoun said. “It’s very positive in light of what else is going on in our economy.”
That new activity means more jobs.
“We have positions open across our entire organization,” Calhoun said. “Professional positions, warehouse, purchasing…”
The new jobs will provide more than $1 million in combined salaries.
“It’s about creating a relationship,” human resources manager Joe Bower said. “We're looking for someone to come in and create long term relationship for their career.”
They have already begun the search.
“We're going through a staffing phase and trying to look at as many talented candidates as we can in a short period of time,” Calhoun said.
The need for more employees is due to more business coming not only to McCormick, but also to Indiana.
“We're bringing some new business in that’s currently made in another state by another manufacturer,” Calhoun said.
A high speed bottling line area construction is well underway. Now, the employees are needed to help run it.
Plus, they're looking for people to work in areas such as their lab or out in the warehouse.
“If this feels like a good fit, the time is now,” Bower said.
