In partnership with JACO Environmental, Indiana-Michigan Power will pick-up your old energy-zapping freezer or refrigerator and pay you for it.
They are offering $30 per unit.
However, you will eventually save even more because the average appliance clunker wastes up to $150 in energy each year.
South Bend resident Lydia Hairston had her old fridge picked up straight from her garage.
In the last year, crews have collected 3,700 old units.
These appliances do not go to landfills. 95 percent of the parts are recycled and used in new products like cell phones and computers.
There are a few guidelines to qualify for this program. First, you must be an existing Indiana-Michigan Power customer in good standing.
Your refrigerator or freezer must be empty and between 10 and 30 cubic feet.
Most importantly though, the appliance still has to work.
Customers can expect a check in the mail four to six weeks after taking part in the venture.
