Humane Society housing lost pets due to fireworks

The St. Joseph County Humane Society has been taking in pets who have been lost from their owners due to fireworks.

Both dogs and cats will often go to extremes to run away from the loud noise, such as jumping out a window.

Wednesday on 16 Morning News, Joel Schipper asked about ways pet owners can keep their animals calm as fireworks continue to go off.

One suggestion is to offer your pets safe hiding places. You can also cover up some of the noise with white noise, such as a television or radio.

Nancy Deneen of the St. Joseph County Humane Society recommends pet owners check back daily with the humane society, South Bend Animal Care and Control and Pet Refuge if you've lost a pet.

Fireworks are allowed to be set off from 5-11 p.m. through this Saturday in Indiana.
