An Osceola man hospitalized in critical condition following a weekend car wreck, could now be facing criminal charges.
Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Steven Briskie, 39, was traveling westbound in the 29900 block of County Road 16, near the Osceola Dragway. That's when his 2002 Ford Explorer began drifting-off the north side of the roadway.
According to Elkhart County deputies, Briskie, who was not wearing a seat belt, over-corrected the vehicle. The misstep caused his SUV to travel across the opposite lane and slam into a large tree head-on.
Paramedics took the 39-year-old to Memorial Hospital unconscious with head and facial injuries. Doctors there performed a blood draw which showed Briskie's BAC was .28, that's more than three times the legal limit in the state of Indiana.
If charged, this would mark Briskie's second DUI arrest in Elkhart County, in just as many years. His last arrest was in July 2010.
