There are many government groups and agencies in place to build community, and communication between them helps strengthen their efforts.
Members of the Community Relations Committee met to collaborate with the South Bend School Corporation.
Superintendent Carol Schmidt said with Indiana's increased voucher program, teaching is a competitive environment.
She stated her commitment to increase learning for all kindergarten through 12th grade students amongst the corporation’s diverse student population.
“We're together, we're hand in hand. And so the more we can demonstrate to the community that we are, that is really important to us. We are not really selling just a school corporation, but a place to live”
She is also pushing for increased technology, expansion of a successful reading program through a grant, and even conducting a survey with the children.
Also, organizing parent drop in centers, to help parents and community agencies be advocates for their children's education.
